Picasso Melons

The Picasso melon is of Japanese origin and is a variety exclusive to Five Crowns.  It is a firm, white fleshed melon that gets extremely sweet when ripe. When ripe, the splotches of color on the outside begin to lighten up.  The unique flavor has hints of Asian pear and Charentais melon. Because of the firmness of the flesh, it can be enjoyed not only fresh, but also lightly grilled and in other cooking applications as well.

SELECTION & STORAGE
Choose melons that are bright in color with a firm, uniform shaped – not overly hard or overly soft. Ripe melons will be slightly soft with mild thumb pressure on the stem end. Do not buy melons that are sunken, mushy or have dark spots. Store whole ripe or cut melons between 40°F and 45°F.

PREP & USE
Once cut, melons can be refrigerated for 3-5 days in an airtight container. Do not freeze melons
